Roger Ailes was the media tycoon who ran the American pay television news channel, Fox News Channel. Before resigning on July 21, 2016, he was Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Fox Television Stations and Fox News, which sparked the transformation of the cable television landscape. In addition to being a producer on numerous television programs, Roger Ailes also ventured into stage and television productions with production credits Mother Earth and My Name Is Baltimore .

Roger Ailes’ Biography

The famous media mogul was born, Roger EugeneAiles to his parents, Donna Marie Cunningham and Robert Eugene Ailes in the industrial town of Warren, Ohio, USA on May 15, 1940. His father Robert was the maintenance chief of Packard Electric Plant, Ohio. He had his childhood experiences in Warren, Ohio.

Roger Ailes attended Warren City Schools and was later inducted into Warren G. Harding High School’s Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. After graduating from high school, he attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he graduated in 1962 with a major in radio and television. During his studies, he worked for two years as the head of the university radio station, WOUB.

The media titan landed his first gig in 1961 as the production assistant for KYW-TV in Cleveland. He was promoted to producer and later executive producer of the talk show in 1965. The Mike Douglas Show . After national syndication of the show, of which he was still executive producer, Roger Ailes won Emmy Awards in 1967 and 1968 for his contributions on the award-winning show.

After launching Fox News Channel on October 7, Ailes was appointed chief executive officer by Rupert Murdoch. As a result of Lachlan Murdoch’s departure from News Corporation, Roger Ailes became Chairman of Fox Television Stations Group on August 15, 2005. The changes include the hiring of A-list media personalities such as Bill O’Reilly, Neil Cavuto, Dennis Swanson and Brit Hume, and the substitution of the A Current Affair program with Geraldo Rivera and Geraldo at Large. Within a few years, Ailes has put Fox News on par with other globally recognized cable news networks like CNN.

However, sexual assault allegations by former Fox employee Gretchen Carlson and other women such as Andrea Tantaros and Megyn Kelly forced Roger Ailes to resign on July 21, 2016.

Roger Ailes first married his high school sweetheart Marjorie White in 1960, but they separated in 1977. He ventured into his second marriage in 1981 by tying the knot with Norma Ferrer, but the union hit the rocks in 1995. The prominent media magnate then celebrated union with his third wife Elizabeth Tilson on February 14, 1998. The couple welcomed their son Zachary on January 1, 2000. After falling on his head at his home in Palm Beach, Florida on May 10, 2017, Roger Ailes succumbed to a subdural hematoma and died on May 18, 2017 amid the dismay of his wife and son.
