The Hailstone family has been the stars of the survival show Life Below Zero since the first season, which consists of Chip and Agnes Hailstone, and their children. Fans are praising the parents for how well they’ve taught their children to survive in the rough conditions on the Kobuk River in Noorvik.

The National Geographic show follows the life and struggles of subsistence hunters who live in remote areas of Alaska. The Emmy Award-winning show, Life Below Zero has been airing for a decade and fan favorites, The Hailstones have been the heart of the show.

Life Below Zero’s Chip and Agnes praised for how they raise Hailstone Family

Chip and Agnes Hailstone were married some years before the show started airing, and loyal viewers have seen them, and their family grow and survive in the Alaskan wilderness.

The two are parents to two older daughters, Iriqtaq and Tinmiaq, and three younger daughters —Mary, Caroline, and Qutan. Agnes also has two sons from a previous relationship and has been praised for how they’ve taught their kids.

However, it’s not been easy, as Agnes admits to survive: “it takes generations of people teaching you the different ways of doing things.”

She and Chip say it’s important to teach their kids things they don’t learn in school, as their kids say “they learn from the best.”

“Agnes and Chip are my favorites. She teaches her kids all the knowledge that her parents taught her. She instills their culture with age-old traditions. A lovely family a true Alaskan experience to us the viewer. God bless you all,” wrote one fan.

Another said: “One of the things that struck me about this woman [Agnes] was her strictness about making sure her daughters learned the skills not just necessary for survival in that part of the world but being a good mother and wife.”

Agnes was named after a natural disaster

Living life in the wilderness, Agnes was actually named after Hurricane Agnes, which hit the United States on the same day she was born.

The hurricane hit the states in 1972 and was the costliest hurricane to hit the country at the time, estimated to cause $2.1 billion in damage.

Much of the East Coast was affected, and the effects were spread through from the Caribbean to Canada.
