Marvin Gaye Wife

Marvin Gaye was an American R&B and soul singer and songwriter, who helped shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s. Born on April 2, 1939, in Washington, D.C., Gaye was the second oldest of four siblings. He began singing in church at four years old and was part of a Pentecostal church that took its teachings from Hebrew Pentecostalism. Gaye faces a lot of challenges during his upbringing, with his father frequently beating him for any mistake.

Gaye began singing in junior high, where he joined the Randall Junior High Glee Club. He then attended Cardozo High School, where he joined several doo-wop vocal groups, including the Dippers and the D.C. Tones. Gaye’s relationship with his father worsened during his teenage years, and in 1956, at age 17, he dropped out of high school and joined the United States Air Force as a basic airman.

Gaye’s Motown songs include “Ain’t That Peculiar,” “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You),” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” Gaye also recorded duets with Mary Wells, Kim Weston, Tammi Terrell, and Diana Ross. During the 1970s, Gaye recorded the albums What’s Going On and Let’s Get It On and became one of the first artists in Motown to break away from the reins of a production company. His later recordings influenced several contemporary R&B subgenres, such as quiet storm and neo-soul.

In 1982, Gaye released “Sexual Healing,” which won him his first two Grammy Awards. Gaye’s last televised appearances were at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game, Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, and Soul Train. On April 1, 1984, the eve of his 45th birthday, Gaye was shot and killed by his father, Marvin Gay Sr., at their house in Hancock Park, Los Angeles, after an argument.

Meet Marvin Gaye Wife Jan Gaye And Anna Gordy Gaye

Marvin Gaye, the legendary American soul singer, was married twice in his lifetime. His first marriage was to Anna Gordy Gaye, the sister of Motown founder Berry Gordy, in June of 1963. The couple had met several years earlier when Gaye was working at Anna Records, and they started dating in 1960 after a three-year courtship.

Although Marvin and Anna’s marriage started off well, it eventually turned disastrous and ended in divorce. Marvin went on to marry Janis Hunter Gaye in 1977, but their relationship was brief, and they parted ways after just two years. They had two children together, named Nona and Frankie. Marvin and Janis later finalized their divorce in February 1981.
